Gala for Culture & Sports

17 March 2009

Queen Margrethe and prince Henrik hosted a gala evening for 380 Danish artists & sportsmen and women at Christiansborg Slot in Copenhagen.



The crown princely couple, prince Joachim & princess Marie and princess Benedikte joined them.







After dinner, the lancier was danced. Mary danced with Joachim, as Frederik was on crutches and Marie was pregnant.



Among the guests was actress Paprika Steen.


Other guests included: Mads Mikkelsen, Bille August, PM Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Bent Fabricius Bjerre.



The royals left together at 01:00.

Visiting Fred in Hospital

10 March 2009

Crown prince Frederik went straigth to Copenhagen's Rigshospitalet when the family got back from their 3 week holidays abroad. After Fred hurt his leg in Switzerland, sleighing with the children, he went on the compete in a Miami sailing race, before flying back to Denmark and getting medical assistance.

Frederik's old and close friend, consultant and professor Christian Buchwald, was there during the entire surgery as support for Frederik.




Mary and the children paid him a visit in hospital.




Two days later, Frederik was discharged from hospital. He would be in plaster for 6 weeks.

Next Holiday Stop: Miami

1 March 2009 - 8 March 2009

From Switzerland, Frederik, Mary, the children & the nanny flew straight to Miami, Florida, where Frederik participated in the Farr 40 sailing competition. Unfortunately, the Danish crown prince strained his ankle on his last day on the slopes.

6th of March: Mary and the children at Miami Beach Marina while Frederik prepares.

Skiing in Klosters

22 February - 1 March 2009

Frederik, Mary & their two children went on their annual skiing trip to Switzerland. This time they opted for Klosters instead of Verbier.

The royal family had joined their friends Jørgen & Marie Louise Skeel with son Holger, Peter & Caroline Heering and their daughters Emilie & Rosemarie, and Lego CEO's daughter Sofie Kirk Kristiansen & husband Christopher Kiær Thomsen with their two children. They all took the private Lego jet to Zürich.

When asked if there would be 3 children with them on their next Swiss holiday, Mary answered: "We can't say that with certainty but it's not impossible. It could be lovely if we would. Lovely if we could be so fortunate to have yet one more little one".

A New Photo & A Long Break

This new official picture of the crown prince and crown princess was released ahead of their official visit to Chicago, planned for March 2009.


Around the same time, Mary & Frederik were spotted on a short skiing trip in Sweden.

Mary had no more official functions for about a month. The family would go skiing in Switzerland and accompany Fred on his sailing activities in Miami.

More Fashion Week

At 13:00, crown princess Mary visited the Designers' Nest and CPH Vision fashion fairs in Copenhagen's Øksnehallen.



Mary wore a new top by Heartmade.




As patron, she handed the Designers' Nest Award 2009 to Sofia Järnefelt.

Malene Birger Fashion Show

Mary, Anja Alajdi and Helle Reedtz-Thott went to see the by Malene Birger fashion show at Copenhagen's Docken, as private guests. They were joined by Per Thornit and his wife, Ulla.







Joachim's ex wife, Alexandra Frederiksborg was sitting on the opposite side of the runway. When they saw each other, the former sisters-in-law greeted.






Mary told a BilledBladet reporter:"I think it's always inspiring to see what designers come up with. It's a picture of the society and the time we live in. But I think that the most positive thing is that there is a lot of optimism within the business, despite the crisis."
